Unfinished Wood Flooring
You can save a lot of money when upgrading your house if you choose to install unfinished wood flooring. Most wood flooring come pre finished with chemicals that protect it and make it look shiny. When you buy unfinished wood flooring you will have to sand it and poly it yourself after you are done installing it. There are advantages and disadvantages to this type of flooring. If you would like to learn exactly what they are then continue reading below.
The disadvantages of unfinished wood flooring can be kind of a pain but not too bad. It is more work after you actually get your floor put down because you now have to sand it and paint it with finish which is a whole job in itself. You may have to refinish the floor every five to ten years as well. The finish can take a few days to dry properly and has a strong smell. These are pretty much the only disadvantages to unfinished wood flooring.
There are many advantages and I believe that they outweigh the bad points by a lot. The first and most important is the price. Most unfinished wood flooring is less than half the price of pre finished floors. This can save you a ton of cash especially if you are doing a big area or entire house. Also if your flor does get scratched you can sand it down and refinish it again taking out the scratch completely. This is not possible with pre finished floors so if you scratch those you better invest in a nice throw rug because that scratch is never coming out.
